Between Land and Sea
Selected for the Living With Death exhibition at Leeds City Museum (May 24 - Jan 25):
Between Land and Sea
I wonder if it’s this
I wonder if it’s here
That we meet ourselves
Where we are lost and found
Where we are undone and where we become
Empty and meaningless and black as your death
Void of it all and yet here
I wonder if it’s at the water’s edge
That our tears are held as holy
Where we realise that the ocean is our tears
And that we are the ocean
Sand in our toes and salt in our hair
I wonder if it’s here that we meet the truth
Free and childlike and full of belonging
Both alive in our hearts and at rest
I wonder if it’s this
I wonder if it’s here
That we meet ourselves
Where we are lost and found
Where we are undone and where we become
Empty and meaningless and black as your death
Void of it all and yet here
I wonder if it’s at the water’s edge
That our tears are held as holy
Where we realise that the ocean is our tears
And that we are the ocean
Sand in our toes and salt in our hair
I wonder if it’s here that we meet the truth
Free and childlike and full of belonging
Both alive in our hearts and at rest
